Do you think the boy name Sirius could work in modern times?

do you think a boy would be made fun of with this name? do you think it could work for a boy in modern times?





It is a name I've loved since Harry Potter. Sirius Black is my absolute favorite character of all time in any book, and he will always have a place in my heart :)





i don't think i'd ever use it though.

Do you think the boy name Sirius could work in modern times?
I love the sound of Sirius, too. I've never read Harry Potter; my main association is with the bright star in Canis Major. (I love star/constellation names.) The main drawback in my imagining is that it sounds just like the English word "serious." I'd imagine a lot of, "Are you serious?" jokes in his future.





Cyrus (SYE-rus) has a very similar sound, and I see Cyrus as a completely wearable option. Cyrus was an ancient Persian king who helped the Jews, so the name is used by Christians, Jews, and Muslims (not to mention country music fans!).
Reply:okayy in my opinion i love old world names and honestly i think its a great name and as for silas its also a name from a book and a movie and not only is it from a movie but it is a sadistic self destructive character so yes i believe sirius is a very very good name and honestly if you really want that name use it and then again 9 chances out of 10 the names you think you are dead set on using you wont use when you have a child one will jump out and it will be the right one at that time
Reply:If it weren't for Harry Potter, I would say it could work.. but because of Harry Potter, it can't. It's too much of a character name now. you know? Maybe in a while when the series are pretty much obsolete (if that ever happens), it could be used.
Reply:Yeah! I think that would be super cool and unique, actually. (And my 11-year old brother just said "That would be SO COOL!" So you know no other boys would beat him up on the playground for his name. :D)
