What does the word goon mean when added to a boy's name in korea?

I watch a lot of Korean dramas and variety shows and I noticed that in some cases, a boy's name is followed with the word goon. For example, in the drama, Goong, two male characters are named Yul and Shin. The main female character calls them Yul Goon and Shin Goon. I've also seen a variety show where a female called the members of the K-boyband, DBSK, Yunho goon and Xiah Goon. So what does goon mean? What are the rules for it's usage? Does it imply closeness between the speakers? Do only females use the word goon?

It's like Mr., but usually added after name when older person call younger man or boy in polite manner.. You say 'yang' to a girl or young woman.


Yul Goon and Shin Goon, the girl was calling them to be cute, don't follow that example when you speak to Korean. :-)


In variety shows they are calling DBSK in polite manner.


If you hear "OO see" or "OO nim" those are also polite worlds you can put after one's name.

'Goon' is one of the honorific word.


If the person treats him with respect, he have to use honorific word





In Goong, Yul and Shin are prince.


Only 150 years ago, Korea was ruled by king.


So, Korean still use honorific word for king's family.





In the broadcast, I think the female and DBSK was not friendly.


So, the female want to maintain respect for DBSK.
