How do you pronouce a boy's name "Noel"?
I have named my new born baby boy Noel. As far as I know, I pronouce it as "No-El" just like the Christmas song. Because of this pronouciation, I have friends assume we had a girl. Some have suggested to pronouce "No" like hole, bowl, etc
If that's the case, I will probably change the name. I don't want my son to have problem with his name down the road during his growing years. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
How do you pronouce a boy's name "Noel"?
It is traditionally pronounced for a girl No-El and NO-el for a boy or Noel (rhymes with goal).
You can see it pronounced here on this clip from the TV show Felicity. The leading man's name was Noel.
http://www.keri-russell.info/video/felic...
Reply:Know- el... my friends middle name is Noel and thats how he pronounces it...
Reply:I would say like Joel but with an N.
Reply:Don't listen to any of this!!!!
You aven't got it wrong, you might just be over-emphasising a little...
Noel should be pronounced Nole ore Nowul
Noelle is a different ballgame altogether and should be pronounced no elle
So, no you are not giving him a girly name or a confusing name, it's just everybody else who hasnt got it right.
Reply:KNOWL or Knoll (the e is silent) and it is 1 sylable not 2 like in Noel the girls name or the Christmas Carol,.
Reply:I believe that it is most commonly pronounced "Knowle" or "Nole", when used as a mans name.
You can pronouce it however you choose, of course, but try to be understanding if others get it wrong the first time. :)
There are no guarantees that you son will love his name no matter what you choose, so you just have to trust yourself a little. :) If his middle name is something more common, you could always address him by that instead, without going through the entire legal name-changing ordeal.
Either way, enjoy your sweet baby boy. :)
Reply:I know a forty-something year old man named Noel--pronounced No-EL..and he's perfectly normal.
Reply:Most pronounce it "Nowl" for a boy ~ I say you can pronounce it / spell it any way you like, it's your child!
Congratulations on your new baby boy!
Reply:the way i have heard it pronounced is NOLE or KNOLL.
its a nice name
Reply:It can be pronounced "Nole" or "No-el"
Reply:It's No- El like the Christmas song you said!
Reply:its pronounced Nole
Reply:It is nowl as in bowl. No-EL is feminine, and would get him teased.
Reply:The boys name is pronounced Nole.
A girls name is Noel - pronounced Noelle.
Reply:I would suggest changing his name to Nolan
Reply:The boy's name is pronounced like hole/bowl.
Noel like Christmas is a girl's name.
Reply:***Yea, it's pronounced Nole. Why would you name your son a name you don't know how to pronounce? And if you pronounce it No-El, didn't you think that sounded feminine? Name him Noah if you don't like Noel.***
Reply:if you go to Merriam-webster online dictionary ` it will say it and it sounds like NO Well ... sounds very girly..Sorry but there is a site that states its for both sex
Reply:I've always assumed that Noelle is a girl, and Noel is a boy. I pronounce Noel as Nole, like mole.
Reply:The boys version is pronounced Nole . You are using the girl's. Changing isn't a bad idea.
Reply:I've always heard it pronounced as a two-syllable name, but NOT like "No-El." That's the girl way (as in Noelle). The boy way that I've always heard is hard to type out... it's like "No wool," but it runs together smoothly so it's almost one consonant. "Noll" is also correct.
Either start pronouncing it as "No woll" instead of "No L", or change it.
Reply:Dont change the baby's name. Pronounce it how you wanted it to sound in the first place. Your friends will get used to it and when he grows up as long as he says his name correctly people will pronounce it the way he does. I think its a nice name more for a boy than a girl. Good luck with No-el!
Reply:Your first pronouncing was correct and beautiful. good luck w/ ur baby boy!
Reply:No-el is the girl pronunciation; Knoll is the boy pronunciation.

Reply:Name him Joseph, nickname him Jos.
Jos is weird as a full name, but it's a perfectly good nickname for Joseph. Joseph itself isn't too common - it was given to less than 1% (0.7805%, to be exact) of boy babies born in the US in 2007. That means that if there are 500 boys in your son's grade at school, only about 3 other boys will be named Joseph (assuming you're in the US).
In contrast, 0.3746% of boys got the name Owen. So, about 2 boys out of 500 will be Owens.
2 out of 500 (for Owen) vs 4 out of 500 (for Joseph) isn't a huge difference in popularity.
Plus, Owen and Joseph sound really good together - both have long O's.
Reply:I'm having the same prob.. we cant come up with anything that we can agree on either.. i want something not so common and he thinks they are all weird.. some of the names I really like right now are Raiden, Ryer, Brylee, Rylan, Athan, Ridge, Zaide, Teagan, Taniel, Kegan, and Zaiden just to name a few the common names seem to be all the aidens such as braiden jayden hayden ect.. even though raiden and zaiden are aiden's they aren't as common as the others its a new generation so the popular names are changing and those are what seem to be popular to me.. good luck because I'm having a hard time to.. we cant agree and I agree with you about Jos.. weird
Reply:I don't love Jos personally, it looks incomplete or rushed. Why not suggest some similar short names like Rio? Nico? Theo? Here are some more ideas:

pron. ay-mon
What do you think of it? Would you ever use it? What middle names do you think flow well %26amp;sound good with Eamon?
Thanks!
What do you think of the boy name Eamon?
What do you think of it? It's better without the E because 90% will say E-mon..maybe Aymon.
Would you ever use it? Not my style, no.
What middle names do you think flow well %26amp;sound good with Eamon? Eamon Luke, Eamon Sean, Eamon Bradley.
Reply:I like it. It's a good option for parents who like the sound of Aidan, Owen, and Evan but want something a little different. I think it would generally be well-received, since it fits in with several current naming trends. (It's Irish, and it's a two-syllable N-ender.)
I'd pair it with a slightly more familiar middle name. It probably sounds best with one that doesn't end in N. If the last name will be two syllables, try to pick a middle that is not also two syllables (to avoid monotony). I tend to feel the best middles are those that have some significance to you, but Eamon sounds good with lots of things:
Eamon Alexander
Eamon Oliver
Eamon Alistair
Eamon Christopher
Eamon Julius
Eamon Malachy
Eamon Nathaniel
Eamon Edward
Eamon Thomas
Eamon Philip
Eamon Davis
Eamon Wesley
Eamon Bradley
Eamon Joseph
Eamon Daniel
Eamon Samuel
Eamon Jude
Eamon Joel
Hope this helps!
Reply:I don't like it...but it would be good if it was followed with annn extremely cute middle name or as a follow uppp to a beautiful first name. Again, I would use it as a middle or a first name.....as long as the other name sounds gorgeous.
Eamon Laszlo
Eamon Peter
Eamon Luis
Eamon Sancho
Eamon Enrique
Eamon Carl
Eamon Birger
Eamon Olif

Eamon Harold
Eamon Hakon

I went to school, from kindergarten up w/a boy named Eamon (pronounced Ee-mon) and he was hated and teased by 98% of the kids. So the name reminds me of him. Sorry.

I used to have it with Daniel - Eamonn Daniel. Then I tried Eamonn Ignatius, which I like even better, but I'm still playing around myself!

What's a good boy baby name to go with Makayla and Kayla?
My friend is having a set of triplets, and have decided on two girl names, Kayla Marie and Makayla Rose, but we also need a boy name to go with it. What kind of name would go, also any middle names?
What's a good boy baby name to go with Makayla and Kayla?
Well I think that Makayla and Kayla are way too similar. A nickname for Makayla is Kayla, so I don't think the 2 names you have picked out are good. What about:
Makayla Rose and Kylie Marie (The first names sound less alike.)
Boy Name: Kaden Oliver
Matthew Kaden
Reply:Wait ... Kayla nad Makayla. That's ridiculous! That's the same name, plus or minus one syllable.
I'm not a multiple, but I've talked to plenty who long for separate identities. Please encourage your friends to reconsider!
How about:
Jackson
Jordan
Zachary
Crosby
And for one of the girls:
Hailey
Mia
Lauren
Chloe
Reply:Micah David I like both of those first and middle names you all picked but I do agree with the one person that says the first names are the same name.Oh I almost forgot I believe you you are not pregnant but when you say something like that it makes people think ta t you are just so ya know.
Reply:I agree with the people saying Kyle.
Though I would feel very sorry for the girls since they'd have almost the exact same name.
Imagine hearing mom calling out either Kayla or Makayla, they both probably wouldn't know which girl she was actually calling.
Kids would probably tease the girls too.
Reply:Makayla is a stupid name. Ive never heard it before and its unique. Make it general. Sarah, mellissa and john. there the kids are named
Reply:she will go nuts with 2 girls names so close. My sister has a Jessica and a Jennifer and is always screwing the names up! How about Kayla, Makenzie and Matthew?

When should you name a boy after his father?
Is it just a family's choice or is there some kind of rule when it comes to carrying on the family name?
Seriously, no sarcastic answers.
When should you name a boy after his father?
It's a family choice. My hubby is Louis Joseph III. When I joked about naming our first born Louis Joseph he said no way, 3 was more than enough, lol.
Our first child has the same middle name as my hubby.
If #2 is a boy, his middle name will be the same as my dad's first name. If it's a girl, she will have my grandmother's name. (But no more Louie's!)
Reply:WHEN SHOULD YOU NOT
Reply:If there is some kind of family tradition involved
then that is when the boy is named after the father.
My opinion: It is your child. Name him whatever name you want.
Reply:It is really up to you and your family If you want to name him after his father but be more subtle than a Junior then find a variation or use a dad's name for a middle name
Reply:there is no rule, if its a family tradition (if you married bob smith the 4th for ex) then your hubby may want to carry it on.
Personally I find it rather narcissistic.
Reply:It's up to you--it is your child, after all, and many families have it as a tradition.
Personally, however, I think that it 1)takes away from the child's individuality and uniquity and 2)makes it difficult--for example Alan Smith Sr. and Alan Smith Jr.: Who gets called Al or Alan? Does one get called by their middle name? Will you just differentiate with Junior?
Good luck.
Reply:My oldest son is named after his father:
John Walter II
My ex-hus. %26amp; I couldn't agree on a name for our son when he was born. My ex wanted to name the baby after both grandfathers:
Ottis (after my ex's father) Elmo (after my father)...neither grandfather likes their names as it is %26amp; said that it wasn't a good idea...which I DEFINITELY agreed!
So to end the argument, it was decided that naming the baby after my ex would be the best thing overall.
Naming a boy after their father, is a personal choice, and should mutually agreed upon by the mother, father %26amp; the father's family. It can be a nice way of honoring the father %26amp; continuing on the legacy if the name is liked.
However, be prepared for some confusion %26amp; identity problems at times. Many times, my son is confused with my ex, his father %26amp; it has to be explained who is who.
Also, worse case scenerio, as in my son's case, my ex used my son's identity, for identity theft. He used my son's name to get credit cards %26amp; due to non-payment caused my son to have problems with his credit. This started when my son was only 2 yrs. old. My son is 17 yrs. old now %26amp; we're still trying to resolve the identity theft issue.
Reply:idk you can but your kid you chose
Reply:You could always name him after your mother. I plan to name my kid Dana, boy or girl.
Reply:its your choice, just a tradition thing. i personally dont like it.
Reply:I think it is a family choice, but I personally am not too crazy about it. Especially, if it is a boy. Everyone ends up calling him Junior. My husband is named after his father and he absolutely hates it, especially when people call him Junior. I think a lot of people are under the notion that the first born son is supposed to be named after his father, but hey, what is this, 1836? No one really follows that rule anymore. At least that is my opinion. Hope this helps! God Bless! :)
Reply:Family's choice. But I think some cultures it is a tradition that you have to follow.
Reply:There are rules in certain cultures, but if yours is one with those rules, you'd already know what's expected of you, so I'm sure, you have free rein to do as you wish. My son is named after his grandfather, as his father is Greek, and this is their custom, so we followed it, even though I'm the mother, but I'm not of Greek origin myself. We just chose to honor their system. If I didn't like the grandfather's name, I might not have gone with it, but since I liked it, it all worked out well.
Reply:when its a good name, and the father is a good person. so if the father is a murderer or a rapist, its not a good idea to name a kid after him. yes its a family choice. and it shouldn't be a weird name like gaylord or something. seriously.

Irish, Hispanic, Italian Jewish name people after family members at respected and honor a family person
I think It's up to you.
I know some people who does not want to name a child with there same name. They use their middle name, that what my husband family did. His middle name went back to his great grandfather, all have the same middle name, but different first name
I know some people who go Middle First names. So father and son has the same name and different names at the same time
It's up to you.
My mom died as a child, she has six people named after her, three granddaughters, and She great nieces. My mom was special to some of her nieces, and they name used a first or middle name to honor my mother
There is no rules about name a child after there father or family members. If you or you husband need to have want to name a son or daughter after yourselfs or family members
Reply:Usually the first son is the one you name after his father if you are going to do it. Generally it's up to the family if that is what they want.
Reply:My opinion is that you name the baby after the father if the dad died before the baby was born.
Reply:Family choice, though obviously, you'd want to make sure that the father is someone to be admired. And not named Herman.
Reply:there is no hard and fast rule. it's more of a tradition thing. in my family the son's middle name is the fathers first name. for example my dad is Robert William, my brother Sean Robert and my nephew Austin Sean. I am though totally against giving a child the exact same name as his father. that leads to nothing but trouble later on in life. I worked for a credit bureau and you have no idea how many problems it can cause when 2 people in one family have the same name. it can be a nightmare.
Reply:Its usually a choice.
In some families it is tradition but there are no rules. You can name your child whatever floats your boat. (not suggesting you make up names though)
Reply:I was going to say without being smart, When you want to. but then I thought, suppose you fall out of love with this man and here your son looks just like him and you have to call him that forever, and then suppose you do not like the father's name like suppose his name is Gus or something.
Reply:Its a family choice. My poor cousin happens to be Daniel Newt the 5th (Newt is his middle name).
In my family, My great-great something grandfather was Edwin, his son Edgar, his son Edmond, his son Edward and I guess they ran out of names because my dad is just Edd. My dad refused to name my brother any kind of Ed- name even though it hurt his dad because dad hates the name. And dad forbade me to name my son any kind of Ed-name. He says no matter what Ed will be thought of as a hillbilly and a moron and he "wont let me do that to his grandson".
On my husband's side. His great great grandad was Wesley, his son's middle name was Wesley, his sons first name Wesley, they skipped my FIL, and then my husband's middle name is Wesley, so we are probably going to use that as a first name so that the baby can be named, in essence, after the whole family not just his dad.

Need comments on this babby boy name: Bovine Estrus?
Bovine was the first name of a beloved uncle, and Estrus was the maiden name of his maternal grandmother (to whom he was very close). These are traditional Irish Gaelic names and are quite common in rural southwest Ireland.
Need comments on this babby boy name: Bovine Estrus?
Bovine is also the name for Cow.
If you live in southwest Ireland then go ahead and use the name, but if you live in the U.S. I would say no.
You're son will be teased all his life, beloved uncle or not.
Reply:hahahahahaha
You are hysterical
PS my boyfriend my boyfriend LOVES it.
why not given him two middle names?
Bovine Estrus Lordosis
I read Lordosis is derived from both English and Gaelic to mean "kingly" or "one who rules"
Could be a nice addition.
Reply:Mrs. O'Tool,
I'm Irish and have lived here all my life. I can assure you that no-one in south-west Ireland, or anywhere else in the country, is called Bovine or Estrus and you are deluding yourself to think otherwise!
Don't call your child Bovine - it's not fair to give a child a name that will have them taunted by other children in school (which will most likely happen, due to 'bovine' meaning related to cows). I think you should go for something slightly more conventional instead! If your husband wants to call him 'Bo', how about the name 'Beau'?
Reply:This is about as funny as someone dying!
Bovine is a type of cow while Estrus/Estrous is the technical name for a the female ovulation cycle. aka. a womans period!
How about Boniface Ezra? They're two weird names, but they're a whole lot better than what you came up with.
Earthy
Reply:If Bovine is acceptable where you live, then go for it. Family names are special. However, the name Bovine makes me think of cows, but I am from America. I like Estrus as a middle name because it is unique. Is there a nickname for Bovine you could use instead of the full name? Bo?
Reply:Honestly, dont do it.
Bovine relates to cows.
And Estrus is the medical term form for the fertility/heat cycle in mammals, like dogs on heat.
You will literally be calling your child "the heat cycle of cows".

I dont think you should name your son that.
Reply:Didn't you post a similar question recently about naming your "babby" girl Snarfles or something? Also after your uncle named Snarfles?
I think you need to re-think what Irish Gaelic names are.
And stop wasting peoples time posting stupid questions. Get a life.
Reply:Bovine is handsome, but I'm a little iffy about it. Estrus is strong and simply flawless. Bovine Estrus does flow quite well, though, and would suit a babby boy perfectly.
Reply:If Bovine can give milk, it's a great name. If not, what's wrong with calling him Equine? He'd be a great worker. I hope you are joking. Why would you call anyone that name? He'll be laughed at the rest of his life.
Reply:I'd stay away from mammalian names and female cycles, personally.
Reply:I suppose if they are common where you are then they are fine..they aren't totally strange but if you lived in the USA some people might think that they were. Bo would be cute as a nickname.

Does anyone have any baby boy name suggestions?
My husband and I are expecting our second child in May, and we would like to find a name that would compliment our daughter's name (Madison) and that is somewhat unique. We have four names picked out right now, but none of them really seem to jump out at us - they are Jayden Thomas, Mitchell Douglas, Tyler Jacob, and Nathan Alexander. Any suggestions you may have would be wonderful!
Does anyone have any baby boy name suggestions?
I really like the name Jayden Thomas. It's definitely my favorite of the names you have listed. When I looked up the meaning of Madison it says "son of a mighty warrior", but ofcourse the name is used for both boys and girls. In fact, more often now I think it is used for a girl. Anyway, if you want to use a name with a similar meaning Kael means mighty warrior in Celtic/Gaelic. I think Madison and Kael sound good together and you said you wanted a unique name. I've only known a couple of people with this name and both were spelled differently. Maybe you could use Kael Thomas or Kael Alexander. I've also seen it spelled Kale, Kail, Cael, and Cale but ofcourse changing the spelling also changes the meaning.
Reply:I like the names: Wyatt, Elliot, Stephan, Damien.
Reply:If you want a name thats similar to Madison, try Matthew and shrten it to Maddie. Here are some other boys names:
Benjamin, Lawrence, Grayson, Geoffrey (or Jeffrey)Michael James, David, Thomas Alexander, Jonathan, Lewis, Paul, Simon, Peter, Michael, Henry Davis,James (Jamie for short), Chares (Charlie for short), William, and Clay.

Billy (just kidding). Maybe something that starts with a C or a K.

Good luck.

Which baby boy name do you like the best?
These are Persian boy names, and of this list, which one do you think is the best? Thanks in advance for all the help! :)
Zamyad
Hooman / Human
Sepehr
Hedayat
Saiar
Which baby boy name do you like the best?
NONE!!!
but the "better" one is Saiar

Reply:Saiar. Is it pronounced like this, sigh-ear? If so I knew a kid named this. It was actually really easy for all of us to pronounce and it didn't get the same stereotypes many other names from that region of the world get.
To be honest, I'm not really sure how to pronounce the others except for Hooman but I'm sure this name would run into some schoolyard teasing.
Good luck.
Reply:Go for Zamyad of Saiar - not such a fan of Hooman.
Reply:I have to say, I'm not a fan of any of them.
I really do not like hooman. I can only imagine the jokes kids at school would make of that name.

Reply:I would like to hear the pronunciation first. Definately not Hooman if it is pronounced Human. I would say the easiest to pronounce just from the spelling. My name seems simple to pronounce but people ALWAYS get it wrong. So it has been pretty annoying growing up with that.

Have a look in a dictionary of you think my answer sounds a bit strange.
Reply:Bovine Estrus,
surely you jest
"Cow in heat" lovely name for a child.
Sorry years of medical terminology and Latin.
If family names are important - go for it
You did ask for comments, and I'm horrified
Reply:Isn't Bovine another name for cows?
bovine
Adjective
1. of or relating to cattle
2. dull, sluggish, or ugly [Latin bos ox]
Sorry to be mean to your uncles name but it is..
Reply:Move to rural southwest Ireland to have that baby.
Reply:Wonderful name.
Reply:Sorry but thats just awful...I pity the poor kid as he grows up. Just call him Bo Estrus perhaps?
Reply:TROLL!!!

Bovine

Reply:I like Bo.. but Bovine makes me think of a pig.. for some reason.. but if your are popular where you live %26amp; you like them.. go for it!! It is our child.. not mine :)..

Good luck and congratulations!

For the second girl's name, I like Zoey Grace (sorry, don't care for Rowan or Grier--both sound like boy names to me--but I think Zoey Grace is gorgeous!). GOOD LUCK!
Reply:I love Maci Isabelle! That is adorable and beautiful! For the second girl's name, I like Zoey Grace (sorry, don't care for Rowan or Grier--both sound like boy names to me--but I think Zoey Grace is gorgeous!). For a boy, I like Kaydin Jared (although I prefer Kaden or Kadon--looks more masculine w/o the y). Maci, Zoey, and Kaden....a great combo!! (I'm assuming you're having triplets? WOW!)
I hope that helps!! Good luck!!
Reply:I like Maci Isabelle (Maci Belle is adorable!)
Zoey Rowan is nice too-they sound similar but don't rhyme so it's ok and I love the way you've spelt Zoey
For boys I like Kaydin Jared. I love the name Jared and Kaydin is my favourite name out of the 3.
Reply:I love the name Maci. (My first choice of all the names)Isabelle is just okay to me. I also love the name Zoey. As for the boy names, the only one that I like is Kaydin, but not Jared for a middle name. To me, it just doesn't flow very well.
Good luck!
Reply:I love Zoey, but not Rowan for a girl. and I love Jordin.
Kaydin is nice
Reply:Girl-Maci Isabelle Or Macie Bella for short is really cute! I like Bella because it means beautiful.
Boy-Kaydin Jared (pronouned Ki-din), i don't really like the pronunciation (Kaden) because it can be feminine
Reply:I like Summer Grace and Maci, without the Isabelle, and I really like the name Rhylin, but I would spell it differently... Rilyn
Reply:I like Jordin-Grace Summer
and Maci Isabelle for the girls names.
For the boys name I like Kaydin Jared because I have never heard that first name. Its very pretty:) Good luck! :)
Reply:I like all the girls name except I don't like Rowan with Zoe - it doesn't flow.
I don't really care for the boys names at all.
